    to transfer from a blog

Meaning, a wordpress.com blog? No – wordpress.com don’t allow the installation of plugins. So, UpdraftPlus can’t be used on a wordpress.com blog to create a backup.

If you’ve got an XML export file from wordpress.com, then I think you can import it into a self-hosted site with “Tools -> Import” and choose the option for importing from WordPress.

Thank you! I did mean importing a WordPress.com blog file into a self-hosted WordPress site.

I tried using this plugin to import that, but it appears an XML file doesn’t work…

That’s expected – UpdraftPlus restores backups created by UpdraftPlus. It can’t restore XML exports. To restore an XML export, you should instead use the “Import” tools that are part of WordPress core. You can find those in the Tools -> Import menu.

    Best wishes,
