What’s the URL? Do you have a caching plugin?

    (@bopjo1)

    https://www.brocadepartners.info

    No caching plugin used.

We upgraded before, but the outbound links and recent download reports didn’t work, so you helped us go back to 3.9.9 via this method:

“If you don’t want to lose your data, you can:

make a backup of your wp_slim_* tables
    rename wp_slim_stats to wp_slims_stats_4
    rename wp_slim_stats_3 to wp_slim_stats
    rename wp_slim_stats_archive to wp_slim_stats_archive_4
    rename wp_slim_stats_archive_3 to wp_slim_stats_archive
delete the folder wp-slimstat under /wp-content/plugins/ (DO NOT UNINSTALL the plugin, just delete the folder via FTP)
    upload 3.9.9 via FTP”

This worked for a while, but we noticed today we have no data from 5/28 onwards. So we upgraded to 4.x via the WP plugin admin screen just a few minutes ago, hoping that would solve the problem. I’m starting to think we may need to delete everything and start from fresh.

Hello, I have deleted the plugin and installed it again fresh. It is tracking, but now there are other problems, which is quite frustrating. We have not gotten this software to work since day one, and each new upgrade seems to break things that previously worked. It is maddening!

The software is not displaying registered users by their usernames like it used to in 3.x. Instead, it shows an IP address. All settings are at default. It is critical for us to track by username like we were able to do before.

Also, your release notes say “Restored the following reports: Recent/Top Downloads, Recent/Top Outbound Links” but no data is showing for any of these and I don’t even see Recent/Top Downloads anywhere. It used to be on the “site analysis” screen but isn’t there anymore.

Lastly, there is the issue with the “export to excel” add-on we purchased. We are using 1.7 and the latest is 2.2 but there is no option to upgrade 1.7 in the WP plugin screen. It doesn’t indicate that an update is available. Manually clicking “check for updates” says “the plugin is up to date” which is false. The add-on does not work and there is no option to upgrade it!

Dear Bopjo1, I’m sorry to read about all the issues, and please rest assured that we’re here to help. I just visited the website, and I can confirm the script is now tracking visitors as expected.

The software is not displaying registered users by their usernames like it used to in 3.x. Instead, it shows an IP address.

Are you using our Custom DB add-on? If that’s the case, you will need to make sure the db user has also access to your WP tables, to retrieve the data. If that’s not the case, then there’s something affecting the cookie that Slimstat reads to decide if that’s an existing user or not.

Also, your release notes say “Restored the following reports: Recent/Top Downloads, Recent/Top Outbound Links” but no data is showing for any of these and I don’t even see Recent/Top Downloads anywhere.

Some reports are now hidden by default, but you can easily add them back by checking the corresponding checkbox inside the Screen Options drawer.

Please contact our support team through our website or via email, we’ll send you the most recent version. Version 1.7 was affected by a bug that, under certain server circumstances, would not connect to our repository to check for updates.

    Thank you,
    Camu

    No we aren’t.

Can you help us with this? It worked with version 3.x

Thanks, but that still leaves the issue of the actual data not showing up for “outbound links” and “recent downloads”. Again, this data appeared in 3.x but is not showing after upgrading to the latest version last night. I’ve logged into our site as a test user using Chrome, and clicked on links of both kinds, but no data is showing up in the reports.

    Thread Starter bopjo1

    (@bopjo1)

Ok, so I went on another computer to login as my test user and slimstat displayed the username.

I clicked on a few PDF’s and outbound links and Slimstat tracked the “recent downloads” and “top downloads” but not the “outbound links”, so we are getting closer.

Ok, so I went on another computer to login as my test user and slimstat displayed the username.

So it looks like on the first computer there’s something preventing the browser from sending that information back to the server…

I clicked on a few PDF’s and outbound links and Slimstat tracked the “recent downloads” and “top downloads” but not the “outbound links”, so we are getting closer.

In Slimstat 4, PDF’s that are “internal” to your website, are now tracked as regular pageviews (with type download), not as outbound links anymore, as this was confusing a lot of users (since those are not technically “outbound” clicks).

    Thread Starter bopjo1

    (@bopjo1)

Yes, but I’m talking specifically about the outbound links. They aren’t showing up. We have a number of outbound links to YouTube videos that I clicked on, and they don’t appear in the report.

Also, does it take a lot of time to update the data? I’ve been on with my test user on the other computer since my last post here and none of my subsequent activity is showing up in slimstat.

    Plugin Author Jason Crouse

    (@coolmann)

Not sure why your subsequent pageviews are being blocked. I just visited your site again, and my pageviews were tracked as expected.

As for YouTube, do those link open in a lightbox window?

    Thread Starter bopjo1

    (@bopjo1)

No, not a lightbox. The link opens in a new browser tab.

    Plugin Author Jason Crouse

    (@coolmann)

Could you please provide a link to a page with one of those videos? Thanks.

    Thread Starter bopjo1

    (@bopjo1)

Yes, the link is on this page:

    https://www.brocadepartners.info/home/success-cases/

And it is the link that says:

“Case Study: Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre”

It is the 3rd link down, in the middle of the page.

You will need to login to our site to view the page. The test user login is:

    user: dtest
    pwd: jambo1

    Plugin Author Jason Crouse

    (@coolmann)

Okay, in your case both the PDF’s and the video on that page are considered outbound links and not downloads, because they link to different domains (respectively brocade.com and youtube.com). So they are tracked as such. I inspected the network activity after the click, and I saw they were correctly tracked as outbound links in my case (associated to pageview id=50, if you go look at wp_slim_events). So everything seems to be working as expected on my end.

    Thread Starter bopjo1

    (@bopjo1)

The problem is the outbound links are not showing up in the report. If I go into the WP admin, and check Site Analysis -> Recent Outbound Links there is nothing there.

So they are tracking, but not being displayed.

    Plugin Author Jason Crouse

    (@coolmann)

I will try to reproduce the issue on our end.
