• Hi!

Our WP infrastructure is centrally managed, and in doing so, we have removed Administrator Role access from all our site owners and replaced it with a custom Role via the “User Role Editor” Plugin that has all Admin rights except those dealing with adding/removing users, themes, and plugins.

The use of this custom Role is making your Plugin unusable as only the Editors (who have lesser permissions) can see the Gallery menu. While the custom Role can be seen in the “Other Options” menu, if I attempt to set it to that custom Role, the green Gallery menu option disappears for even the default Administrator Role, requiring a database restore to see it again. (that in itself is a bug that needs to be addressed)

So, to my question: Is there a known extension to your Plugin that provides support for custom Roles and/or do you have any intentions to support custom Roles? …or is that simply unsupported and we need to look elsewhere for photo gallery software?

@androclese – We are reviewing the issues with custom roles but as it is currently we can only say we are supporting the default roles of WordPress directly … there may be other methods that allow custom roles to be used with NextGEN Gallery but we do not currently have any recommendations.

Can you point out where in your code you are doing the Role check? At minimum, I might be able to determine a work-around.

@androclese – I would suggest starting in the “security” module here:

    ../wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/security/
