Internal server error 500 on dowload link

From the downlink link in the purchase confirmation email as well as trying to download the purchase from the page displayed after returning from PayPal, I receive “500 – Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.” The file being downloaded in 1.6MB While I see the error in the IIS access log, I can’t find any details on the cause. PHP memory is 256MB. In the admin pages, I see the download count incrementing for this order, so some of the processing must be working. I would appreciate any resolutions others have done or steps to take to uncover more details. My version of WooCommerce is 2.3.10 All other aspects of the package is working perfectly.
