Jetpack sharing not displaying number of shares

I enabled jetpack sharing on my site and the share buttons are showing up correctly, however they don’t display the number of shares that my post is getting.
I know that my post has 35 shares because I checked it using https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/share-button but the number doesn’t display next to the Facebook share icon on my site.
Shouldn’t it do this automatically?
