Any idea why the job application notification emails would have stopped working?

My client is getting some emails-but not all. Their IT dept said the emails that are hitting their firewall are going through….but that’s it

Also, they upgraded Windows Exchange server to SP3 last Friday….dunno if that helps…I figured it has to be some setting on their end since that is all that has changed.

    Thanks,

    JW

Email issues have been a bane of ongoing discussions lately in WordPress circles. 99.99% of the time the issue is your host – ISP or Server related.

They don’t like to send SMTP messages form the servers and they block them.

In many cases a server that was working fine and all of a sudden stops, it’s because they updated the php version and or other server sw and they will no longer support that function. We have also had users reporting cPanel issues too.

In that case you have to resort to using one of several work around plugins to accomplish this. Two that we recommend depending on your mail service that may prove better in the long run.

WP Mandrill that’s listed as one of our recommended plugins for Job manger

The other is Postman SMTP Mailer

Actually my client figured out what the problem is. When they post a job in more than one location the notification emails will not send. If they post the job in just one location, the notification email goes through just fine.

    Any ideas?

    ?

    Thanks

If you go to the link I provided, my client has 10 locations (categories). if a job is assigned more than one category-the notification emails will not send after an applicant has applied to that job.

Ok, you need to go into the admin area and ensure that each category has the appropriate email assigned to it. Once you start using multiple categories JM doesn’t use the default as they can be assigned to multiple parties.

Email – The address to notify when new applications are submitted in this category

    Great-I will give it a shot-thanks!

Unfortunately-they didn’t work. I added the default email to each category and ran a couple test applications and no notification emails came through.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

This is either a configuration issue on your JM admin area or an issue with your sites SMTP mailer.

Just rechecked on several live sites and no issues with multiple categorizes and emails. Even multiple category with differing emails and no issues.

Re-check your configurations, that the Jobs actually have category assigned and a valid email.

If your still experiencing issues it may have more to do with your server SMTP config. In that case check out this thread.

I just checked and the JM settings are correct and each job assigned a category. I have already checked that thread and my Cpanel settings are set to: “Remote Mail Exchanger”

My client hosts their own email through an exchange server-so, would this then be something on their end they have to look into and not the web host?

    Thanks,

Ok, that’s the missing piece. Yes….in that case you may need to install and configure one of two options.

    Both are listed here: https://www.wp-jobmanager.com/recommended-plugins/

    wpMandrill or Postman SMTP mailer.

My advice to save you a MAJOR headache first. Set up your categories with emails YOU know work and ARE NOT on an exchange server.

I use Gmail and Zoho account for this. This will tell you if it’s your servers SMTP settings. If it works – its your clients email server, if it does NOT work, then go for the plugin options I suggested but, check them with other emails (as I suggested) before you touch that exchange stuff….
