Post summary not displaying onn Home page

  • I am new to WordPress and the Custumizr theme, but have been working with various CMS’s for over 15 years. We are trying to migrate our current google site to WordPress. I have the site hosted on BlueHost because we are a non-profit and all volunteer.
    Two questions:
    1. On the home page I want one of the 3 post fields to display News/Events. I created a page called News/Events. I created a post and categorized it as and Event, to display on the News/Events page. But I can’t get the first sentence to automatically display on the Home page followed by the Read More button. I have found a way to manually enter it, but would prefer it to fill the most recent post automatically. Can you help?
    2. After a News/Event happens, we frequently write a summary of that event, what is the best way to connect the summary to the originally posted event?

    I gather that my posting was either too vague, or you are all too busy with other requests. When might I expect some feedback?

    Is there someplace else I can go to learn how to use WordPress and this theme?

    1. Mmm, don’t know if I get. The 3 featured pages display pages, so you want the first featured page be “News/Events” but the read more button linked always to the latest published post.. right? If so, well isn’t possible by default, but with some code in your child-theme functions.php you can somewhat achieve that. Let me know if you’re interested.

    2. Same as above. Don’t really get, I’m sorry. Do you want the first featured page showing the excerpt of the latest published post?
