AKISMET NOT WORKING

  • I have been using Akismet to prevent spam for a long time and it has been very successful. Over the last two days I have noticed that lots of lots (100s) of SPAM messages are getting through. They go into the moderation queue and then I mark them as spam. However one I mark them as SPAM the akismet stats so not update with the new total spam collected.

    Also when I go onto the akismet plugin config page I am seeing the following message:

    “The key below was previously validated but a connection to akismet.com can not be established at this time. Please check your server configuration.”

    Can any help please? How can I stop all this SPAM?

  • I have been having the very same problem for the last 3 days. Tried all suggestions from other discussions. Nothing. It just stopped working.

    I had the same problem and after one hour of searching without any hints I had a look at the access restrictions for akismet.php.. changed them from 644 to 744.
    and now it started working, cool

    This seems to be an intermittent issue, and apparently has more to do with a problem with Akismet itself, rather than my webhost.

    If you are having the same issue, I suggest you simply wait a few days for things to normalize again. Meanwhile, I suggest you use the excellent Spam Karma plugin.
