It also depends on how many different image sizes you have selected to be compressed with TinyPNG. You can view this on the settings page.
Each image size counts as a separate image, so in case you have 5 image sizes configured to be compressed, then compressing 100 images will instead count as 500 images compressed.

Hope this explains why you already reached the free limit of 500 compressions.
