After my last update, all my post name permalinks were broken. They only work in the default setting. All my custom post name links worked prior to the update. I have tried resetting several times, but always get the 404 page not found error. Any fixes?

My site with the ugly urls is tammysteachings.com.

    Thank you!

If default setting works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure again. If clearing your Permalinks does not alleviate the issue, this could be attributed to anything from a web server configuration to a bad WordPress install.

Default setting works. I’ve read Using Permalinks and Googled the issue. It seems I’m not the only one with this issue, but I’ve not found any resolution.

I used custom post name permalinks with no problem for 2 years prior to the update. Short of waiting for a new update with a potential fix, I’m out of ideas.

Have you discussed this issue with your hosting provider?

    No I haven’t. That’s a good idea. Thanks!

Try that, there may be some server limitations. One thing is for sure – this is not a WP core issue.

It worked! Within an hour iPage fixed the permalink issue! Thank you, Tara for your suggestion!

    You are welcome ??

After searching, reading posts (majority blaming the .htaccess file), and experimenting for hours with no real solution to the issue of only the Default Permalink Settings working in WordPress, I started looking at the settings in my Bluehost hosting account, specifically my database settings. I noticed there was a button called “Repair Database” so I clicked on it. I then went back to my WordPress Admin area and changed my Permalink Settings from Default to Postname. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my pages and posts were working correctly! So, this must be what iPage did for Tammy_Harris.
