Page attributes

That usually means that your template files don’t have the “Template name: ” header at the top. Did the dropdown disappear suddenly or did you install a new theme and it doesn’t appear?

I’m following a YouTube instruction on how to make a worpress website and on his page at the very bottom right he showed how to set up your page by going to page attributes and choose from a dropdown but I don’t have that showing on my page

Right, that’s only if your theme is set up to do that. Otherwise it doesn’t appear because your theme probably has a pre-determined template for that post or page.

I have no theme, I’m not there yet. I’m only set up the menu and pages

It could also be that this box has been hidden. Check your Screen Options at the top right of the page and ensure, firstly, that Page Attributes is present and, secondly, that it is checked.

I checked all the options still no template

Like I mentioned above…I’m following this youtube instructions and he is showing how to set up your home page without the side bar and to do this you select Full width page rather then the default. But that option is missing on the add new page

Go to Appearance > Themes. What theme does it show as active?

If that is the only step you’ve done then you haven’t created a template yet and it will not show in the Page Attributes.

Twenty fifteen is showing as active …..How do I de-activate this theme?

By activating a different one. Some theme have multiple templates available and some don’t. Twenty Fifteen does not … thus, why this option is not available.

So how do I de-activate it? I’m not ready to choose a theme yet

The only way to de-activate a theme is by activating a different theme. The site has to have some theme that defines how the site is visually structured. This can be changed at any time.
