Are field names starting with "_" supported?

I like to save form input to posts with (Form to Post Plugin) but the field values should not appear in the wp custom fields meta box therefore I like to use fieldnames starting with “_” is that possible? I tried it but some text fields shortcodes are not getting rendered to inputfields.
