Manual Check doens't work all of a sudden
-
The app had been working just fine till today (June 20, 2015).
30 minutes back or so, the Manual Check stopped working all of a sudden. When I click it, it gives me a blank white page. I am not able to publish any of the posts because of that. Help?
PS : I rely heavily on the Manual Check instead of automatic checking at certain time periods.

Hi arunsathiya,
I have to admit it is quite strange.
Can you confirm that automatic checking works fine?
I need some more infos, like Wp version and php version please. Moreover, can you try to use another Dropbox account? Did you see this old post ? https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/seems-to-have-stopped-working-080914-monday-1500cet
Still, can you disable all plugins and see if the manual option works again?
Bye,
PaoloManual check works fine now. But, I am having quite a few issues with Manual check : The featured image by Auto Post Thumbnail Pro (https://codecanyon.net/item/auto-post-thumbnail-pro/4322624) doesn’t get set when I use Manual check. But it gets set for automatic checking.
I really understand that you have works, but, it would be really helpful if you can take a look at this issue and get me a solution.
Thank you very much.
That plugin is not free.
I’ll try the free version (not PRO) https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/auto-post-thumbnail/ .
It’s a bit dated but I hope it works. I’ll try to replicate the bug and take a look.I will let you know soon.
Thanks for the reply, PaoloBe. I shall wait, but it would be best if you can solve this soon.
Thank you.
Hi,
I’m sorry but I was very busy.
I did some tests.. apparently both plugins work fine without any change.
As I said, I used the NOT PRO version ( https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/auto-post-thumbnail/ ). I tested the plugin in the “Manual” mode (as you requested) with Worpress 4.2.3 .I simply saved a text file and put a img tag ( e.g. <img src=”www.someurl.com/image.jpg” /> ) . I tried multiple times and it worked fine.
Can you be more precise in the description of the problem have you experienced?
Hi PaoloBe,
Thanks for the reply.
I clearly mentioned that the plugin does work fine. The plugin does pull the image and set it as the featured image. This happens only when the text file is automatically (periodically) published to the ‘posted’ folder of ‘Post via Dropbox’ plugin.
When I use the ‘Manual Check’ button (the force check button to check for posts and publish), the image doesn’t get set featured. I am forced to edit the post in WordPress dashboard again, click ‘Remove Featured Image’ button to remove it and click ‘Update’ post. This time the plugin detects the image and set it as featured.
The issue is with the ‘Manual Check’ option of ‘Post via Dropbox’ plugin. The option seems to be causing lots of problems. It causes many problems with other plugins too.
Hope you understand now.
It would be best, I would really appreciate if you can check this and get back to me.
Thank you.
Ehm… As I said in my previous post, I did the tests with “Manual check” button and I did not find any errors. The Auto thumbnail plugin works fine: the image is retrieved, resized and set as featured.
At this point, since I used an older free version, I think the issue could be related to the PRO version of the plugin. I do not have it and I can’t do much.
Another try is to disable all plugins except those two and see if it works. It could be an issue related to a third plugin. Let me know. And yes, the manual mode is quite buggy but I can’t rewrite this piece of code. It was conceived only for test purposes. Are you sure that you absolutely need the Manual mode instead of the Automatic one (with the minimum interval, 5 minutes)?
Amazon disabled all other plugins and published a post now.
Still, doesn’t work. Look at these images.
1. After publish, image doesn’t show https://www.dropbox.com/s/y1wwjrk4pj3vpbn/Screenshot%202015-07-29%2007.45.38.png?dl=0
2. It clearly shows inside the post though https://www.dropbox.com/s/ut7omyjeguwrvdx/Screenshot%202015-07-29%2007.47.04.png?dl=0
3. In the WordPress editor page, I am forced to Remove it and Update to set the image.
Clearly, this is an issue caused the Manual Search button of Post via Dropbox plugin. Lots of other issues have been happening earlier too (like issues with not able to publish posts using WordPress email-publish mode. For example, when I sent mail to my WordPress to publish posts, and use the Manual search to publish, it doesn’t happen. I hope you’re getting my point)
Yes, the Manual Search is the most important part of the plugin. The 5 minute scan interval is too long when it comes to posts that have to be published real quick.
The Post via Dropbox plugin is immensely helpful that it would be best if you can work on this issue and fix it as soon as possible.
Thank you.
PS: Set up a donation page. There are fans like me who would like to contribute for your best works.
I’m sorry but I can’t reproduce the error, it simply works fine. If I don’t, I can’t fix it.
Please give me more information you can. WordPress version, php version. A sample txt file that you have used.. whatever infos or hint you think it could be useful.I’m working right now on an update, also involving the Manual mode, but if I can’t hunt down the bug, you may experience the same issue.
Another thing quite trivial.. Did you try to uninstall/reinstall both plugins? The right way to uninstall PVD is to deactivate it, then remove plugin files.
I think I have some information: The automatic scan actually scans for the posts and if there are new ones, it process to publish them, right?
In the other hand, the Manual Check, it force-searches and publishes the post with the current timestamp.
Maybe, you can write the Manual Check code to not force-publish the post with the current timestamp and instead do a 2-second-Automatic scan or something like that, right?
I am no geek, but I hope I am making sense.
Let me know if any such options are possible.
PS : I have tried reinstalling both plugins and disabling all. Still, the same issue. And, my WP version is 4.2.3, PHP version 5.4.42 and MySQL version 5.5.40. Hope this helps.
Here is a little more information to get more clarity on the bug:
1. I had written a post in .txt format and uploaded to my Dropbox folder. I had made a link-syntax error in the post. So, the image was not uploaded. See image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/age4prme51ctej4/Screenshot%202015-07-30%2022.11.56.png?dl=0
2. Next, I solved the issue by changing the <img> tag syntax error and did a ‘Manual Check’. The image upload was apparently done, but PVD set a blank image. See images: https://www.dropbox.com/s/df11e1vzboxi8bd/Screenshot%202015-07-30%2022.14.59.png?dl=0 and https://www.dropbox.com/s/8wes56e6rpih8o5/Screenshot%202015-07-30%2022.16.20.png?dl=0
3. I clicked ‘Remove featured image’ and clicked ‘Update’ and now here is the featured image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pds61izatb7wj1w/Screenshot%202015-07-30%2022.21.22.png?dl=0
I am not really sure what is wrong. :/ Would be best if you can revamp Manual Check to do automatic check function, only after 5 seconds.
Waiting to hear from you.
Here is one more information to help you:
1. There was a post in my folder without any image since a long time.
2. I opened that .txt file and added a <img> tag with the image link. And hit the Manual Check. The image appeared as featured image finally!
So, clearly, Manual Check works for posts without images in the past. But to those getting published newly, it doesn’t work.
Hope this proves to be some sort of helpful information to squash the bug. If you are still unsure, maybe you can set the function of Manual Check to set automatic check to 5 seconds. That way, an automatic check happens and sets the featured image without issues.
Waiting for your reply.
I’ve been following this thread.
The plugin ‘Post via Dropbox’ – help you upload and edit the content of a posting.
The featured image feature is independent of the content. That’s why there are separate plugins to pull image links from the post content.
Read about featured images here;
https://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Post_ThumbnailsThe ‘issue’ with the featured image is that the function within WordPress, not the plugin, pulls a link from the media library – for the thumbnail.
The obvious solution is to request that the author of ‘Auto Post Thumbnail Pro’ – rewrite the call, to rewrite fetching the thumbnail, every time the post is revised. If that’s even possible.
It seems to me, that that functionality is well outside the scope of Paolo’s plugin.
Thanks for the reply, Neil. I shall reach out to the authors of Auto Post Thumbnail Pro asking them to look into this bug.
PaoloBe, it would be best if you can launch an option – which when pressed should do a quick automatic scan in 5 seconds instead of manually force-publishing the page.
I hope I am making sense.
I have been forcing this since the past many days because, this is the only major issue I face with the Post Via Dropbox plugin right now. The automatic posts are published just fine with featured image. It fails when I force publish using Manual Check button though.
