Continues to regenerate w/page refresh and DEACTIVATION?

I installed plugin, regenerated some thumbnails on my site and when I noticed that with each page refresh, it continued to regen (and save mult files), I deactivated plugin. Oddly, when I look at my image timestamps, I noticed that the same thumbnails are continuing to be regenerated even AFTER plugin has been DEACTIVATED. How is this possible??
