• Hello everyone,

Ok, I am completely new to WordPress and I am struggling a bit to get off the line and wondered were I could get some assistance.

I currently run a free forum and decided I wanted to go to paid hosting and get my site looking a little better. My plan is wordpress integrated with phpbb.

As it stands I’m struggling to even change the background of my first WP page, get plugins to work, anything really. Maybe I’ve bitten off more than I can chew by jumping right into the deep end here and thinking I could just learn as I go.

So… the home WP page I am struggling with. I want to use wordpress but I don’t want it to be a blog. I just want a header with a couple of logos in it, a footer with contact details(only email and twitter) an auto full page image slider with no tool tips or arrows and a dark fade overlay, images fading in and out. In the middle to the right I want registration fields like, username, email, password etc etc and once logged in I want that to disappear and there be options, buttons to click on like forum, leaderboards, season calendar, team page etc etc. All whilst the images just auto slide in the background.

Seems simple enough. I’ve downloaded WP-United and a theme I think I could alter to make work but I’m getting swamped by it all and wondered if someone here could give a little structured guidance so I’m not bouncing around WP like a moron. Steps to take maybe?

I’ve tried installing the WP-United Phpbb Mod for integration but couldn’t get it installed. Probably lack of knowledge on how.

    Thanks
    Paul

  • Hi Paul

Your post is a little wide-ranging and covers lots of questions. First of all, the look of your homepage is entirely governed by the theme so if you’re working with a theme from wp.org and need help changing specific things, please ask. If you’re working with a theme from elsewhere the best people to help you make changes would be the theme developers.

I’m not personally familiar with using WP-United so can’t say how much of what you need would come built in with that, but a quick look at its support forum suggest that other people have recently had problems with it too. Whether the plugin is still under development or not I can’t say, but the WP-United website seems to be down too. It might be worth looking into whether there are alternative solutions. Sorry I don’t have better news on that!
