• My website is imhereworld.com. I have BuddyPress installed.

This site is essentially not up yet, but it is live.
Someone is apparently using some machine to create 100’s of logins. I had to spend time deleting all of the accounts.

When the person first did it, I installed captcha. The accounts are not showing up in WordPress, but I am getting hundreds of mail like the following:

    New User: leannagether17
    Remote IP: 195.154.41.53

    Disable these notifications: https://www.imhereworld.com/wp-admin/network/settings.php

It does appear as if it is sometimes slowing down the GoDaddy Server.

What is this person doing and what can I do about it?

  • This is a very standard thing. People set up bots to register on pretty much any WordPress site that they can inan attempt to create backlinks for SPAM’y sites.

There’s some plugins that can combat this. I’ve used one called Wangguard (strange name, but works well) and that seems to be pretty good from my limited experience with it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll try it!

    I’ve tried the following:

    WangGuard
    Anti-spam by CleanTalk
    BulletProof Security
    CM E-Mail Registration Blacklist
    JP User Registration Blacklist
    SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam
    Stop Spammers Spam Control
    User Spam Remover

I’m still having the problem, but I noticed that I didn’t have BulletProof Security activated. I’m hoping to end this.

Once again, there are no users showing up in WordPress, but I am getting tons of email about people activating accounts.
