• Dear cast_456,
I love your template and working with it since a few days to fit in my website.

The thing is: in customizer I put all settings in the Sidebars panel right to be able to place the widgets in the right place (top sidebar, as you told thisismykeywest) and at first that worked great and I managed to build a nice frontpage. But then it suddenly disappeared, see link below. Once you start navigating you don’t return on the layouted homepage anymore. Same thing happend with my portfolio page: I’ve build a lot of material with the GL widget item and was very happy with the results, but now it is all gone.

As far as I know I have checked all the things right in the Sidebar panel to be able to see the Portfolio (Page) First Top Sidebar in the Widgets Panel, but it only shows a Footer Sidebar. When I check First Top Sidebar on in all Sidebar Panel options, the portfolio-widget I want to build only on my Portfolio Page appear on all pages.

    What do I do wrong?

I hope you can help me out here. Thanks!

    Hello franka slothouber!

    This link doesn’t work: https://www.frankaslothouber.nl/testsite_wp_2015/

I have a question: 1. do you see the Top sidebar in the menu Customize >> Widegts on your front page or portfolio page? It should have name Top Sidebar, Front Page and Top Sidebar, Portfolio
    2. “Once you start navigating you don’t return on the layouted homepage anymore.”

Do you mean after closing the Customizer?

    Hi cats_456,

    Thanks for your reply.
You cannot reach the site anymore because I deleted everything and am starting now from scratch with a new clean install.

If I run into any problems with the theme again I will ask my questions here.

    Cheers,
    Franka

    Hi cats_456,

Still working on the sidebar-widget thing, I cannot get my head around it ??
When I’m in customizer I try to get the sidebars fixed in a way that allows me to place a widget in the first top sidebar on the portfolio (page). But whatever I do, I only get a footer sidebar on that page and that is not the place where I want to build my portfolio galleries.

I have a new link to the site (work in progress):
    https://www.frankaslothouber.nl/wp_2015/

Also I’m confused about in which way to place the widgets: with customizer or at the backend of the site in that widgets panel. When I place the widget of my choice over there in the right place it does not show up on the front end. The other way around it does show, but not in the right place (first top sidebar on the portfolio page).

It would be great if you could help me out here. Thanks for your patience ??

Meanwhile, still searching for a solution to my problem, I’ve installed the Jetpack plugin and also would be happy to showcase my portfolio like this:
    https://wpblogs.info/demo/glass/portfolio-full-width/

But I still didn’t find out how to get the content of either the glass images widget or the jetpack portfolio into my portfolio page.

Please help me, I’m sure I’m overlooking something, but I’m working on it for days now and still don’t see it.

    Thanks in advance cats_456!

I think I finally worked my way around it!
Just to be sure I did the right thing:

I created a project with Jetpack, then clipped the project to my main menu and from there I could fit in the images widget I was aiming for.
Is that the way to do it?

Franka, hi, sorry for the late reply.

    With Jetpack’s portfolio you can:

    1) Fill project’s info in your dashboard > Add New Project for each project
    2) All projects will be shown on this page: https://www.frankaslothouber.nl/wp_2015/portfolio/
    3) In Customize > Customize Layout > Portfolio (archive) set layout to full width

    Hello there!

First: I really love the way this theme looks!

Second: Please help me so I can use it! I am simply needing to change the picture and wording for the “blog,” “portfolio,” and “shop” section that appears on the demo. I also would like for each one to include a link to separate pages.

On the demo, it says I can customize the icon and link; however, nothing seems to change this section. I’ve added widgets to every area I can imagine. I’ve attempted each suggestion in this post, as well as in the forum for another user (I believe “thisismykeywest” or something like that!).

When I was working with the site a few weeks ago, I swear I was able to type the new title name over in the customizer. However, I’ve looked through all of the options and I no longer see it. Although, I don’t remember the option to upload a new image in that section.

Please help if you can, and let me know what I’m doing wrong. Thank you SO much!

ErinJohnsonWriteNow, hi! All widgets you see in the theme (images, search box, and so on) can be replaced by custom content by adding a widget to that sidebar. Theme has 5 sidebars: right column, left column, top sidebar under content and two footer sidebars. You can access any sidebar in menu Customize > Widgets, open section with that sidebar and press ‘Add new widget’:

    1) Open Front Page
    2) Open menu widgets
    3) Open Top sidebar
    4) Press Add new widget
    5) Select widget GL Items or GL Images

It has all options you are looking for.

note: Customizer shows sidebars, active on the current page only, other pages can have different sidebars. Theme has options for adding new sidebars at Customize > Customize Sidebars.

Actually you can hide sidebars on home page from menu Customize > Customize Sidebars: uncheck mark ‘Top sidebar’ at section Home to hide that sidebar complitely (Customize > Customize Sidebars > Home > Top Sidebar).

I’m sorry, current version has some bug with defaults and it doesn’t work for home page. Will fix it in new version..

    Hi Cats,

I’m online now for real: https://www.frankaslothouber.nl
I really love your template and I’m sure that the bugs will be solved.

I have a few questions left about lay-out issues, but for me the sidebars/widgets issue is solved for now. I managed to do what I had in mind and am now working on the last details of my new site.

    Thanks and regards,
    Franka

Thank you so much Cats for the clarification of the bug with the defaults on the home page. I believe this is what I’m experiencing. I can’t wait to use the theme. I know you’re working hard!
