• hi,
I just want to know if what I did was OK,
I needed to transfer my wordpress from one server to another, same domain
I went and installed wordpress to my new server,
I went and installed same plugins and configured them as well same as other
I went and updated both installs to newest versions, and plugins to latest.
Then i went and backed up my database from the old server and pasted it on the new server.
I then went and downloaded my wp-content/uploads folder and uploaded it to the new server
I then went and changed the table prefix to the old server prefix, different, to keep the old tables in the database too just in case.

i then went and opened up new wordpress install, it was not showing anything. I went to wp-admin and longed in and forgot to install theme as the old install, i went and changed it to default and it worked ok.

is there anything that I am missing??
could I place this new wordpress install in a work environment?
any security flaws that I might have done by doing this?

    thanks.

    all help is appreciated. ??

  • You did everything that hard way but you got the job done. I would have created a backup for the old one, and restored it on the new server.

The last thing you need to do is create a backup for the old one before you terminate it. Make one also for the new blog.

You have emails on the old website/server?

I did tried the backup before, but it didnt worked, it freezes up in the middle of the backup. Also i dont have any emails on that server, email is taken care of another server
I was just wondering if by doing it this way i had created any security holes in the system?

No security holes to worry about.

You can go live with your new site.
