• Support,

Normally I use backup clone to backup to a different domain, or backup a site and install it in a sub directory for a DEV copy.

For some reason, why Heart Internet I cannot get this to work, it used to.

They say they don’t allow loopbacks and the app does this apparently.

    These are my steps to reproduce the error;

    1) Install WP-Clone and run on main site (backup works fine)
    2) Install clean WP site on sub directory, then install WP clone.
    3) Run WP Clone restore backup
    4) Get error message.

    Error message;

The plugin encountered an error while downloading the zip file, the following error message was returned:
Error Message : Failure when receiving data from the peer

Temporary files created in /home/sites/site.com/public_html/dev/wp-content/wpclone-temp will be deleted.

    Summary

Not sure what to do here. I’d really like to get this working again considering how good the plugin is.

If you have any ideas or recommendations, I would be most grateful.

    Thank you,

    Gabi

  • Did you ever get a resolution for this as I’m having exactly the same issue at Heartinternet?

    Hey,

I am with Heart Internet too. This plugin used to work but now does not. It backs up but does not restore – same error msg as you.

I am speaking with Heart now about it. We have tried resetting permissions, and using it on various clean/new installs of WP but still the error persists.

I will keep investigating today and hopefully will have an answer later.

For me, it is only a problem with different URLs. For example if I am backing up Website A and restoring it to a Website B, it doesn’t work. If I am backing up from Website A and restoring to Website A, it works fine.

Heart Internet have no idea what the problem is. The good news is that I found a workaround…

To create a backup of Website A and restore it to Website B

    1. Log in to Website A dashboard and use the WP-Clone plugin to create a backup of Website A.
    2. Paste this URL into your internet browser, and it will download the .zip file.
    3. Using an FTP program, log into Website B and navigate to the folder ../wp-content/uploads/wp-clone/ (for example, if you are on Heart internet it will be public_html/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone)
    4. Upload the downloaded .zip file into this folder.
    5. Your zip file is now on Website B so you can use the URL https://www.websiteB.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone/theZipFileName.zip. Test this by pasting it into a browser and seeing if it downloads. There can be no spaces in the URL.
    6. Log into the Website B dashboard, and go to the WP-Clone plugin.
    7. Click ‘Restore from URL’ and paste your website B URL into it.
    8. Click restore and it will work.

Try that and let me know. Happy to help.

Sincerest apologies, I did not see people had replied to me on here.

Only got one notification and that was from you 3Dhendo.

    Thanks for responding everyone.

HI have been somewhat rather unhelpful and simply said that due to the application having a loop, they were not allowing it. I think sometimes they reply in this kind of manner as they don’t know the answer.

Nevertheless, thank you very much or the workaround 3Dhendo, I Will try that out and let you know, in fact, I should be moving some sites from VPS to shared and can test on there.

    Many thanks,

    G.

Finding now that WP-Clone does restore the site using this method, but not all the settings are coming across from WordPress which is a little bit annoying and need to ensure I do not miss anything out.
