• I’m currently creating lots of product pages for my website. I use a cloud based booking system that is embedded into my website. As such I’m missing out on SEO for all the products that I hire. I have been advised that I should build more pages. I’m taking this opportunity to carefully construct the new pages with keywords that are common search terms in my industry. Using Yoast to help me make sure the pages are optimized properly.

I’m really pleased with the pages I have created so far. I’m getting lots of green lights on the Yoast plugin on both the General and Page Analysis tabs. My URL’s are very clean. At the moment they are private. I intend to publish them all public at the same time. Mainly because I can’t publish the main ‘parent’ page until the others have been completed as they all link.

I am creating great content that will be useful for my customers. The product pages will help them link products with other relevant products or accessories. In theory when a customer does a Google Search they should find a page that is very relevant for what they are searching for. I have put a lot of time and thought into this and not just stuffing keywords purely for SEO. Though obviously I’m being very mindful of what I want to achieve.

In the past I have created posts for my blog that have performed very well. I have a fair idea on how to get a post to rank. I haven’t posted for a while because creating the product pages has been a huge job.

My question is will Google penalize me for over optimizing? Obviously I’m not over optimizing on each page as Yoast alerts me if I put too many keywords in. However, does Google get suspicious of lots of optimized pages being published at the same time? Especially if I haven’t posted in a while. Does Google think it suspicious that nothing new has been posted for a while and then suddenly 100 optimized product pages are posted? If it was a new website then lots of product pages would be expected. As it’s an existing website I’m worried about being blacklisted with the sudden publishing of lots of new pages.

I have been working on this for months now!

It sounds like you’re fine with using naughty SEO techniques, but are just questioning whether you’ll get caught this way or that way. I don’t think anyone here can answer that.

Can you post your query on Google’s forums? It would be better to get an official response, rather than opinion from here.

Crikey Andrew! I didn’t think I was using naughty SEO techniques! I actually believe I’m creating great content that my customers will find very helpful! There’s not much point in creating great content for my customers if they can’t find me.

I have a lot of hire products and I’m simply creating pages for my customers with relevant information on each product.

As I said above if it was a new website I wouldn’t be concerned. However, my website is not new. It’s just taking me a long time to build the pages. As I have an embedded hire page it has given me the breathing space to create pages that my customers will enjoy. The categories are linked together so it’s not possible to launch a few at a time. Anyway, it wouldn’t be helpful to my customers if only some of my products were listed.

I’ve read about people making rookie mistakes unintentionally and being blacklisted by Google.

I didn’t realise it was naughty to want to optimize my pages? Is it naughty to use my Yoast SEO plugin?

I simply wanted to know if it was bad form to release a lot of pages at once. I’m not trying to find out a way not to get caught. I’m actually asking if I’m doing anything wrong unintentionally.

I’m actually quite offended by your response!

    I probably misread this sentence:

I have put a lot of time and thought into this and not just stuffing keywords purely for SEO.

Fair enough. Thanks for your response ??

I don’t think product pages are counted the same as if they were blog posts as a lot of stores pop up and put a lot of different types of products in all at once to give them the best possible chance at exposure. I think ultimately it would depend on the coding of your page. Do the product pages fall under a more individualized page, or do they fall more under a catalog type of page. There are programs if you’re that worried you can run or even plugins you can use that will gradually update your content and add it in for you if you’re worried about it adding all of a sudden at once.
