Getting emails from the server does not work

When you try to register an Account it does not send the email i even looked under spam. And when you try to reset the password this error comes up The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function.
I host the server myself and im wondering how i can turn it on of fixed the problem
