Please don’t take the tone of my response the wrong way, but it seems you have a fundamental misunderstanding of open source.
Before I begin, just a little note about the GPL. What I did is not just “probably” allowed. It’s explicitly allowed by the GPL.
Also, did you forget that you bundled the CMB2 library, that was created entirely by these 59 (at the time of this posting) awesome contributors? Or do you mean you created it “entirely” besides that?
Anyway, Pricing Tables Pro is not a copy. It’s a fork. There are differences, albeit subtle, at this point.
I removed a bunch of the font and color settings and other features that don’t fit with my vision of an ideal pricing table plugin. All I wanted a barebones pricing table plugin.
No options to change colors. No options to change font styles. No upsells for “premium skins” and the like. Nothing but a simple solution for theme developers to offer portable pricing tables for their users without unnecessary options in the way.
I believe in decisions, not options. Judging from all the (what I believe to be excessive) settings in your pricing table plugin, you don’t seem to share that belief.
Since I recognized our ideological differences, and considering the commercial nature of your product (I plan to make $0 from now until forever directly from this plugin), I decided to fork it.
At this point, it’s basically a watered down version of your plugin. I don’t try to hide that and readily admit with a credit notice at the top of the main plugin file.
I’ve also made some enhancements, such as refactoring some of the default pricing table CSS, and removing hardcoded “clear:both” divs in favor of a semantic, CSS-based clear, and a few other things that I can’t think of off the top of my head.
I know they’re pretty minor changes, but feel free to implement any improvements I make back into your plugin. You won’t hear any complaints from me about it if you do.
I’m expecting the code bases will diverge much more in the future considering how often you update. I’ll update mine too. They’ll go in different directions, just like two diverging paths after a fork in the road. That’s what a fork is. This is what open source is all about.
Compared to b2->WordPress, JigoShop->WooThemes, and the countless other open source software forks out there, Pricing Tables Pro must be close to dead last on the totem pole of impactful forks. I’m not trying to change the world or cut into your bottom line. We’re talking about a pricing table plugin here.
With all that said, I will be declining your request to remove the plugin from www.ads-software.com as well as GitHub.
I’m going to mark this as solved, because it’s not really a support question. If you have any other concerns in regards to this, feel free to reach out to me privately. Before doing that though, you might want to read this article to better understand my position.
I hope this better explains things, and I really do wish you the best of luck. If somebody wants a more feature-packed pricing table plugin (something PTP is definitely not trying to be), I’ll be sure to send them your way.
