    Dear www.ads-software.com staffs.

    I have a legacy account with E-mail {email-A} and username of {username-A}.

Since www.ads-software.com does not allow me to change username, I went to changed the email of {username-A} to {email-B} in the Forum and Codex (have to do it separately, another bug maybe).

Then, when registering a new account with {username-B} and {email-A}, www.ads-software.com told me Email already exists.

According to a related post, this bug exists for at least two years.

Please, fix this issue, thank you!

It’s not a bug. The system is meant to lock down an email address to one account.

Why would you need to change a username? A username is just a unique key to log into the site. Your display name is what shows up in threads.

I’m releasing a plugin, a commonly known username is important to me.

It’s a bug, because I have changed the {email-A} of my legacy account to {email-B}, after that, {email-A} should not bound to any of you system, and I should be able to register a new account with {email-A}, but I’m facing the Email already exists bug.

Plus, If I do a password reset with {email-A}, you system prompts me The specified user does not exist error, obviously it’s the system www.ads-software.com messed up.

Exactly the same bug as in this topic.

As Andrew stated, this is not a bug, this is intentional. Emails are tied to accounts. They don’t get released when you change them. This is to prevent spam registrations.

You don’t need to change usernames, because your display name can be set to anything you like. Usernames are really just identifiers.

It’s hard to believe this behavior is eligible as a feature in year 2015. If E-mail is important to prevent spam, instead of tied to an account forever even if one has changed it, I suggest send an E-mail verification when one changes it’s E-mail at www.ads-software.com/support, like Codex Wiki did.

If there is no man power to working on these hotfixes, I suggest make a clearer statements (e.g.: Once registered, the E-mail is tied to the account forever (and update it wont change the fact)) on Sign Up & Sign In & Password Reset & E-mail Update forms to prevent confusions, especially their error messages.

Theres is another issue, after I’ve changed the E-mail at www.ads-software.com/support, the E-mail of associated account at codex.www.ads-software.com won’t get updated, I have to change it again. I understand it’s hard to couple some very different systems to work together, thanks for you clarifications. Still happy to see some real improvements anyway.

To be honest, it doesn’t actually come up a lot. People don’t usually try to create new accounts on sites where they already have accounts. That simply doesn’t make a whole heck of a lot of sense. Do you have like more than one Facebook account? Why? What’s the point?

You make one account, and use that account. Simple. Easy. Not complicated at all. Your username is sort of irrelevant, in the long run. We allow company accounts too, for various ownership reasons, but for the most part, one email, one account, no take-backs.

If there is no man power to working on these hotfixes

I mean, if you have a problem, I’m an admin here. I can change anything I like. I just want to understand your actual problem better. Why would you want to make another account with the same email? That doesn’t make any sense to me. What difference does the username matter? None, as far as I can see.

I can fix your problem easily. I just want to know what the actual problem is, not what you think the problem is.

the E-mail of associated account at codex.www.ads-software.com won’t get updated

The codex is actually connected to these support forums logins. The “email address” on that site is not actually used for anything. It’s just a dormant and unused remnant of MediaWiki.

Info from gist copied and deleted. Next time, use email. ??

I have a legacy www.ads-software.com account with username @oldusername and E-mail [email protected].

Couple years later, I decided to use @gaomd as my username across the Internet, and I actually did (GitHub, Twitter, etc).

Now I’m ready to release a WordPress plugin, I wish I could publish it under username @gaomd, too.

The plan is to stop using @oldusername account, and update it’s E-mail to [email protected] (DONE), then register a new account @gaomd with E-mail [email protected]. (But www.ads-software.com won’t allow me to register with [email protected] again, said “Email already exists”, turns out I registered with [email protected]).

TL;DR: Since [email protected] is my main E-mail, I wish I could change the E-mail of my newly created account @gaomd to [email protected], so I could login with [email protected], then automagically www.ads-software.com would pull my correct Gravatar.

Please review the provided reason to see if it’s acceptable and help update my E-mail.

    Thank you!

    I’ve updated your email address.

In the future, don’t try the DIY approach. If you need something changed around about your account, ask first. Creating new ones and swapping around email addresses and other things of that nature, well, that’s what spammers do. We block that sort of thing for a reason. It’s one of a long line of defenses we have. ??

    Sure.

And problem solved, Thank you very much! ??
