Since the new version of CHROME (Version 45.0.2454.85 (64-bit) ) the admin menu structure becomes corrupted when mousing over the entries

    multisite

    works fine in safari

Any ideas why this is happening?

  • Hi there,

This is a known issue with Chrome versions 45 and above, and is being tracked here:

Chrome 45 has a rendering bug. There is a ticket open on Chrome’s bug tracker about this issue, hopefully they will fix it soon.

In the meantime, here is a workaround to eliminate the issue in Chrome.

    – Go to chrome://flags/#disable-slimming-paint
    – Enable the “Disable slimming paint” option.
    – Ensure that the “Enable slimming paint” option below it is not turned on.
    – Relaunch Chrome.

When you’re done, the final result should look like this:

This will disable the problem code in Chrome and allow the menus to render normally.

    Using Firefox works fine (/sarc)

Thanks for the info! It helps to know the cause. However, I made the changes you suggested and restarted Chrome browser and still have the same problem. I am running the latest version of Chrome, Version 45.0.2454.85 m, on Windows 7 64-bit. Any other ideas? Aside from using Firefox? ??

@linsoftware You made the changes incorrectly. Refer to the screenshot to see how to configure the browser.

This is a confirmed fix. It does fix the issue, if you enable the correct option and not the other two options.

Also, “restarting” the browser is not enough. You must “Relaunch” it. Once you make changes on that screen, there is a button at the bottom of the screen to fully relaunch Chrome.

@otto Thanks for your reply. It’s working now. I had to “Relaunch” it. Sorry, I didn’t realize that was different from restarting.

Thank you too Samuel Wood . . this worked for me too.

    Thanks for the tip!
Though I have 100’s of clients and few of them have already started calling me “their website is broken” so I put up a plugin to patch this for them: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/chrome-admin-menu-fix/

@luke Williamson: That is not a valid fix. It doesn’t work for all cases, notably mobile.

The Chrome fix is the only correct fix. CSS hacks are just that: hacks. They are not fixes, they are workarounds. Don’t rely on them, or recommend them if you can avoid it.

Yes, Luke, you should go visit each and every one of your clients and make the necessary changes to Chrome!
    ??

Seriously, though, Samuel, thanks for the Chrome tip anyway; it’s opened my eyes to a whole new world of Chrome. Forgive me if I recommend Luke’s plugin! Worked nicely for me.

    thank you so much.

enable disable, weird. here are the instructions.

In the meantime, here is a workaround to eliminate the issue in Chrome.

    – Go to chrome://flags/#disable-slimming-paint
    – Enable the “Disable slimming paint” option.

    – Relaunch Chrome.

Nice of you, Luke, taking the code from someone else, then add put a donation link to your own paypal.
