Error prevents me from being able to disable plugins

  • Ok. I’m gonna try to not sound like a complete idiot so here goes.

    I recently inherited a site when I took on a non profit as a client so I did not install this site or any of the plugins on it. I was told it had not been updated in awhile so I knew it had some issues.

    Upon logging in I see that there are 11 plugin updates and there is also a wordpress update to go from 4.1.1 to 4.3 as well as some theme updates.

    When I go to do any updates or disable plugins I get an error message.

    The message is as follows:

  • If you have ftp access or access to the file manager located in the hosts control panel, you might be able to temporarily disable the “/all-in-one-event-calendar” plugin by just renaming the folder. Example: all-in-one-event-calendar.bak

    There might be an issue with that version of the plugin. If that gets rid of the error, you might need to see if there’s an updated version available.

    I don’t have FTP access. That would make this really easy, nobody knows anything about this site and the people who were running it before disappeared.

    If you can find the folks that actually pay the bill for the hosting account, they should be able to contact the support group where the site is being hosted and get some access. They will need to provide proof of ownership, but once that’s done most hosts will help you change passwords and gain access to ftp accounts.
