• Apologies if this is covered in the docs/elsewhere but I haven’t found the answer…

I am using Yada Wiki which has a custom post type “yada_wiki” and its own hierarchical taxonomy.

I have a lot of articles and so under the top level yada-wiki category “Wiki” I have created alphabetical groups A-E, F-J, etc., each of which contains several articles.

I thought that setting up a menu based on taxonomy would allow me to list all articles in groups (one group at a time, other headings unexpanded until mouse over or click or…) in a menu but I can’t see how to achieve this.

    I have

1/ “Wiki” as a (Wiki) Category Menu
2/ Groups A-E, F-J, etc. added as sub-items of “Wiki”
3/ Wiki itself is not set to auto-populate
4/ Each of A-E etc. is set to populate from the taxonomy “wiki_cats” with the appropriate (e.g. “A-E”) category for each item selected under terms; hide empty items unchecked, depth = 2 (changed from 0 which also did not seem to further the objective)

[Also: On the letter subgroup items, “replace current item…” is unchecked, but if I check it, the group item disappears, but is not replaced by the title of the (published) article in that category.]

What should I be doing to achieve the required result based on a hierarchical taxonomy?

Otherwise JC Submenu does everything I expected of it, there have been no apparent conflicts with other plugins or the Theme (Divi) – nice work; thank you.

    Best regards

As stated above menu population does not work on “Populate from Taxonomy”.

However, using “Populate from Post Type” and then using exactly the same taxonomy specification did populate the sub-menu.

The only problem is that I am only seeing a fraction of the published posts in the specified taxonomy in the menu

The posts should appear (they are all categorised correctly, published etc.) and when viewing by taxonomy in WP all are accessible (if one goes far enough back through “previous” posts), and other tests show that call category contents are being retrieved OK so it does seem to be a JC submenu issue.

    Hi Julian,

I think my wording on the plugin may have created a misunderstanding, the “populate from taxonomy” section of the plugin allows users to populate their menu with taxonomy terms, and not create a list of taxonomy terms populated with their post_types.

I know JC Submenu has been neglected over the past couple of months, at this point i am currently looking through the code to see what is possible with the current state of it, and what can be built upon to produce this functionality.

    Hi James,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think it was a wording issue, and it all works OK provided one populates from post type… so I’m not sure what additional functionality you might be referring to as a future option* but glad to hear that there may be more to come: I have found it very useful. Many thanks!

Just one issue: the post limit = 0 only produces a maximum of 10 items. I see it being passed directly to wp_query as posts-per_page, and looking at wp_query in the codex, maybe -1 should be the value to return all posts? Seems to work for me ??

    Best regards

    * Would be nice to be able to specify multiple taxonomy terms… I have “A-E” under two higher levels… would be nice to say #1, A-E and #2, A-E

    Hiya,
I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I’ve taken over looking after our website and I’m struggling to add an addition menu item. The menu system we have drops down to photos of each product which i can change and upload no problem, but it won’t automatically come up with this for the new item ‘WASHBAGS’ I’ve tried copying the other menu items however there is a number system which appears to be completely random and aside from going through every number from 1 onwards i don’t know what to do! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!
