New domain name and web server, page 404s

  • We are obliged to change hosting service. In the process of preparing for the move, I have transferred the site to the new hosting under another domain name. The new server is under Plesk, which I am as yet unfamiliar with.

    Because the website had many static pages before I got there, I have WordPress running under a 2nd level directory. The “home” page is just a page that links to two pages that use the bbpress and calendar plugins.

    Clicking those links lead to 404 responses.

    I can log in to the admin dashboard. The setup for the plugins looks as I think it should. I was even able to update to the latest versions of bbpress and calendar. I also have access to the database via phpMyAdmin.

    What have I done wrong?

  • I took a look at your site and it really could be a number of things. I would just recommend using this excellent plugin to do the move https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/duplicator/. However, please note that I think it is important for devs and designers to understand the moving process. I move WordPress like some people move files on their computer, so I like to make things as easy as possible for myself!
