error:0D0890A1 on Yahoo host

  • I got this message while trying to update to 4.3.1: error:0D0890A1:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_verify:unknown message digest algorithm.

    Previously I have tried to update two plug-ins and get the same (or similar) error message. For example: An error occurred while updating All In One WP Security: Download failed. error:0D0890A1:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_verify:unknown message digest algorithm

    There are similar threads from Yahoo host users so I am assuming there is some incompatibility.

    Yes, others have reported that Yahoo is running an outdated version of OpenSSL (with known security problems). When a web host continues to decline to keep up with security issues, it may be time to reassess. Hopefully they’ll take action soon, for their customers’ sake.
