I realize there are threads here close to this but none quite the same, while I would not want to add to your workload, I do need to be clear about some principles.

Been using the plugin happily for quite some while and it has done a good job. Recently I had to change (downgrade) my hosting package with a very good host, but this involved a site transfer to different servers with different dns. Encountered many problems with broken links and redirect errors after updating the database.

The solution was to disable BPS with a change of folder name, and to restore the default .htaccess file. Everything is working except the security.

My question is should I delete bps and reinstall it to get a fresh run through the setup wizard? Generally what is the best way to manage BPS when a site is moved to another hosting server.

My personal recommendation would be to do these things in this order for a move/migration to a different host:
    1. Activate Default Mode on the Security Modes page and deactivate wp-admin BulletProof Mode.
    2. Move/migrate your site.
    3. Run the Setup Wizard again on your moved/migrated site.

Not really sure what this means? “Everything is working except the security.” Can you be more specific. Do you see error messages? What exactly is not working?

Yes, i guess try uninstalling and reinstalling BPS and run the Setup Wizard. If you have Custom Code that you want to save then Export it first before deleting BPS.

Thanks, you are right, that was ambiguous, sorry. I meant that doing these things sorted out all the problems but BPS was still disabled, so no security. I just wasn’t sure if it was safe to just reactivate the plugin folder given that I had manually changed back to the basic .htaccess. I think I’ll clean house then put it back.

    Thanks for quick reply.

You may just be able to run the Setup Wizard to take care of everything. The Setup Wizard is designed to be re-run over and over and will automatically create the correct code for a website.

Is the issue/problem still occurring or is it resolved?

Everything stabilized by restoring the default .htaccess file for a while and disabling BPS. Then I ran the BPS setup wizard again and updated the root and specific htaccess securities.

Everything is fine now, thank you. Just to comment that your plugin is wonderfully adaptable, it is really good to be able to repair issues and not compound them by rerunning a process.

    Thanks for the help.
