Web Platform Installer fails – now what?

I didn’t follow any guide to be honest, but I fixed the problem by uninstalling the IIS that was installed (version 10) and reinstalled and then it just worked.

I had the same problem. I guess I should do more research if we both had the same problem and the same solution–seems like there might be a better way than uninstall and reinstall. Glad you got it working!
