• Hi.

Just looking for some confirmation on something before I move forward with it.

I am looking to change the URLs of 12 posts very slightly. They all have “2015” in the title and I would like to remove this or change it 2016. These posts generate a decent amount of traffic and are also internally linked quite a lot. SO I really want to confirm I am on the right track here. From what I have read wordpress will automatically redirect from the old permalink to the new one. So if I change my URL from “website.com/this-is-a-2015-post” to “website.com/this-is-a-2016-post” then any one trying to access “website.com/this-is-a-2015-post” will automatically be redirected to “website.com/this-is-a-2016-post” and any links pointing to “website.com/this-is-a-2015-post” will automatically go to “”website.com/this-is-a-2016-post” rather than a 404 error.

I tested this out on a test site and it seemed to work fine but I want to make sure I’m not missing anything here.

Note: I don’t want to change the permalink structure at all, I just want to adjust the slug on a few posts.

Any advice on this is much appreciated.

    Nate

  • Nate,

Having written posts only to realize I typo’d the title and thus the slug…
Having only realized this AFTER I sent out a promotional email…
Yes..it does functions that way. If you change the slug…the old one will still wok as well.
