• Hi. I’ve got a wordpress website hosted on one.com and I want to edit it in dreamweaver.

Every tutorial I can find just implies that you can just download the website through dreamweaver to your computer and then start editing, yippee!

However, this is complete bs. First of all, the database is not exported so even if you somehow access your website locally, everything is messed up and you can’t log in or anything on your local edition.

My question is: Does anyone have a tutorial at hand that actually works, where someone shows how to edit a PRE-EXISTING wordpress site in dreamweaver?

  • Hey there, have you read anything like link below or are you looking for something more detailed?

Yes I have read that. It doesn’t work and I don’t know how the authors that write these articles don’t know that.

When you import a website like this through wordpress into dreamweaver, the mysql databases and all the links are left behind. You can’t even connect to your local edition on the website.

If you export the database manually (as conveniently ignored by these articles) you get a functioning front page but the linking is still messed up.

Also this tutorial is the biggest joke of them all. He doesn’t even specify a testing server, so it’s virtually impossible to edit anything his way.

That article about Dreamweaver was Posted on April 25, 2013. The information you are reading about is over two years old. I would suggest that you always check the date of the article you are reading and adjust your expectations accordingly.

While Dreamweaver editing of WordPress is not a typical working environment, there are over a half a million listings on the World Wide Web that discuss how to work with WordPress using Dreamweaver.

I don’t like it either. What’s the most common way of editing wordpress sites today?

People take two primary courses of action when editing a WordPress website.

    1. You can edit the Theme by going to the Admin area and selecting APPEARANCE->EDIT from their menu. This brings up the WordPress editor along with all of your theme files. I personally do not suggest using this method.

    2. Download a copy of your WordPress to your local machine and edit whatever content you like (ie theme, plugin) in your favorite php editor and then upload that work to your live server. There are plenty of free PHP editing tools out there.

I personally prefer the second method and require anyone on my team to use it.
