    Very interesting plug-in!

I’m trying to get 2FA by IP address working. After enabling 2FA, I get this notice (as intended):

Before completing activation of email-based two-factor authentication we need you to confirm your site can send emails.
Please click the link in the email you received. The email has been sent to you at blog admin address: <my correct Gmail address>

However, I never receive the e-mail, not even after saving the Login Protection settings several times.

    My e-mail address is correct.

There is nothing in my spam folder.

I have made a test.php script (on the same WordPress site) that sends an e-mail to the same Gmail address through wp_mail(): https://gist.github.com/butlerblog/5c9b805529c419b81447#file-test_wp_mail-php
This works perfectly; I receive the test e-mail immediately.

I’ve tried disabling my other security plug-ins (Ithemes Security and WP Protect), but nothing seems to help: I’m just not getting any e-mail from Simple Firewall.

I presume there is something odd about my WordPress installation. Perhaps there is nothing you can do, but if possible could you give me a hint of what else I can try? Much obliged!

Yes, we do give “f”. As you’ll see if you look through our support forum… and that doesn’t even show our support we do direct through email. Some things get on the long finger unfortunately and we have to prioritize.

Steven, can I ask, could you try setting up email in this way – if only to test. I find this quite odd since we use the wp_mail() function in exactly the same way to send the verification email as all the other email.

Could you also check your error_log files to see if there’s anything strange in there referring to emails?

Dear Paul, thank you for your help! I only saw this much later. I have now set up Mandrill as you suggested, and now the verification e-mail works! I’ll mark this as resolved.

(I suspect the problem was related to my hosting company’s somehow not allowing the sending of certain kinds of e-mails, the kind that Simple Security Firewall needed. It was just so strange that it would allow me to send my test e-mails without any problem, but, oh, well, Mandrill solved that issue!)

However, 2FA is still not working, owing to a new problem…but I’ll post a new thread about that.
