• Hi, I’m new here and wondering if someone can help.

I am wondering what the difference is between a “Page” and “Service” (in a theme).
As far as I can tell, the Services section displays my information on the website, while the Pages section just enables me to list my services in a drop down menu, without actually displaying any of the information.

Because my Pages and Services match up, will the duplicate information have a negative impact on my SEO? (Even though anything written in a page is not actually visible)

    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

  • As far as i’m concerned ‘Page’ is just a default post-type like ‘posts’. But there is no such post-types called ‘Service’ by default. So, for services you have to build a custom post-type. Actually, what are you trying to do? can you please explain so that it would be easier to provide you some guidelines. Thanks!

You need to ask either the theme or plugin author that is providing you with this “Service” section.

Hi @emilyeb, I have to let you know that @insomniactechworm is not associated with WordPress in any way and you should not contact that person or provide that person with your website’s login details.

You can trust the www.ads-software.com forums for support precisely because people provide support via the forums itself and people do not log into your website.

@insomniactechworm, If you cannot resolve the issue on the forums then so be it. Let someone else answer the thread. From your response it appears you are solely interested in making money from these forums. That is why your account is currently blocked. I will unblock you now.

Thank you for your help so far.

@WENSolutions I am using a theme called FitnessGYM which allows you to show the fitness services you offer (e.g. We have martial arts classes, so I am displaying those). “Pages” list the same classes, but as a drop down menu.

I therefore have “Pages” with roughly the same information as “Services” but as far as I can tell it’s only the services info that shows up. What I’m really trying to do is improve SEO, so I think I should delete the text within WordPress “Pages.” I’m just not sure if google would be picking up the duplication or not.

Thanks @andrew – I will not contact anyone via skype!

Ok so the theme is providing you custom post types to make the posts categorization easier. That means, Posts & Pages are default post-types provided by WP itself. But service now becomes custom post types. Actually, custom post types can be easily formed. Their role is just to make you back-end more flexible & easier. You can categorize services under ‘service’ post type & other post type can be categorized under ‘Posts’ & pages. Thanks!
