• Aqua Page Builder causes missing or broken Visual Editor display

    There have been problems with WordPress Visual Editor not working.
    I experienced this after updating Worpress and a number of plugins.

    This problem needs to be properly fixed.
    A simple solution for users for the meantime is described below.

    Some help for attempted fixes is at ;
    https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/165249/wordpress-4-and-wp-editor-not-showing-visual-text-tabs
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/visual-editor-tab-not-showing-how-i-fixed-it
    and
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/visual-editor-not-showing-up-1
    which says
    “How I was able to fix it was to

    disable all plugins
    Go to Tools –> Upgrade — Reinstall 2.9
    Reactive plugins
    clear browser cache
    log out of WP Admin then log back in

    More useful help is at ;
    https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/165249/wordpress-4-and-wp-editor-not-showing-visual-text-tabs
    which said ;

    disable all plugins
    Change the theme to one of the defaults (e.g. TwentyFourteen)
    Go to “my profile” and check the “disable visual editor” box.
    Save
    Go back to “my profile” and uncheck the “disable visual editor” box.
    Save

    I followed instructions like this, some of which worked ok.
    But I looked for the actual cause of the problem, by trying plugins individually.

      Diagnosis

    I was able to isolate the cause of the problem down to the Aqua Page Builder plugin.
    All that was needed to get the Visual Editor to work, was to deactivate Aqua Page Builder.
    But deactivating Aqua Page Builder caused the home page slider display to not show.
    So that implies that Aqua Page Builder not only builds the page templates, but is required to serve up the pages live.

      Meantime Solutions

    The work around for users, is to deactivate the Aqua Page Builder plugin while editing, and turn it re-activate it afterwards, for proper page visibility to website visitors.

    No need to disable all the plugins. No need to change user settings.
    No need to go to user settings to turn Visual editor on and off.
    No need to change themes.

    A work around for the makers of the program is to detect a page edit session, and deactivate Aqua Page Builder for the duration of the page edit session.

      TinyMCE related issues

    ;

    1) It was mentioned on a forum for TinyMCE editor that the later versions of WordPress have introduced a new MySQL table entry that handles whether the Visual Editor is displayed or not. It might be thta Aqua Page Builder needs to be updated to be compatible with this new function.

    2) TinyMCE ID attributes need special handling

    Styles in Visual Editor when Aqua Page Builder is activated are white fonts on white background.

    Description
    When the Visual Editor shows nothing, on a page that you know should have something, or if you have just typed in some text,
    then you can try copying from the white page in the Visual Editor and paste it in to a notepad type text editor.

    You will see that the contents are actually there, but they are not visible.

    This suggests that the styles that are used for displaying the Visual Editor, when Aqua Page Builder is activated, are white fonts on white background.

    MKSnMKS – Thanks for your comments and solution. I agree mine was not the best answer from a security perspective, but simply a workaround for me at the time.

    My situation is different from yours in that one machine in the house works 100%, but the other only works with local installation. The difference was the version of AV I am running and the feature. My HW firewall is intact but this particular application FW feature seem to be conflicting in some way.

    Hi dmulunda,
    Thank you for that info.
    It sounds like there may be an interplay between the visual editor, page builder and firewall settings.
    Would you be willing to check this?
    If you are then the way this can be checked, is to use your PC which has had the problems, with it’s firewall set to the problem condition. Then go to wordpress and plugins, and deactivate your page builder.

    Possible conclusions as a result of the test;

    1) If that fixes the problem (too), the we know there are two fixes, and the problem is therefore how firewall settings effect page builder, and how page builder can obstruct visual editor. The problems are therefore one and the same, connected issue.
    or
    2) If doing that does not fix the problem, then your problem is indeed a different problem to the one I have had.
    Thank you
