Can't log in to customize page

When I try to access the customize page of my site, I am instructed to log in by a message that says “Session expires. Please log in again. You will not move away from this page.” After I log in, I get the same message again (username and password are correct) before I can access any of the customize options. Any ideas? I have not been able to update my homepage for months because of this.
