    Hi,
I’m having trouble with setting the landing page / home page to a specific language.

My site is available in English and in Dutch. (thanks to Polylang!)
I would like to have the first landing page to be the home page in Dutch.

The links and the flags work fine for changing the language, but I can’t get the home page to display the Dutch version of the Home page and not the English one.
The home page is set to a static page in WordPress and it is set to the Dutch version of the home page. But even when I type in the link to the Dutch homepage in my browser, which is – https://www.andreaguitar.com/nl – it still displays the English version.

I also unticked the option for allowing the home page language to be chosen by the browser.

How can I force the landing page to be the Dutch home page and not the English one?

    Thanks

    Andrea

    Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that I found a workaround by chance:
If i omit the “www” and type andreaguitar.com/nl then it does work…

    what’s happening?

    Hi

    1) Setup the Nederlands as default language in the Polylang settings (Languages > Settings tab).

    2) Uncheck the option “When the front page is visited, set the language according to the browser preference” in the Polylang settings.

    3) Clear your cookies and the cache of your browser and make your test.

1)2) In this configuration, at the first visit your visitors will be redirected according the default language of your site (Nederlands).
At the second visit, your visitors will be redirected to the home page in their last browsed language either Nederlands or English.

    Thanks Chrystl,

    That did it!
I think the key that determines the home page behavior is the “default language” setting in Polylang.
That was the only thing I hadn’t changed yet.

I assume that means Polylang overrides whatever choice you make when you chose a static page in a specific language in the WordPress “reading” settings.

It’s the default language which is important.
You are right the language of the choosen static page in Readings doesn’t matter to Polylang.

Please mark you topic as “resolved” if it solved your problem. Thanks.
