Customer buys product which is in Trash

  • I have a question.

    I was out of stock on an item and I put the item in the trash so it was no longer online/visible in store.

    However, a few days after, I get an order for the same item, in the trash the qty is now negative.

    What happened here and how can it be prevented?
    Possibly the user added to cart a few days ago and only completed the order today.
