• Hi guys,

So i designed a website for a friend a couple of years ago which i check every few months to ensure all is in working order. I realised today that the home page doesn’t seem to be appearing in the google search results for keywords that it always use to. I don’t believe this has anything to do with how google perceives the site, more like a problem with the source code or plugins.

The webiste in question is www.elliemoores.co.uk

For example, if i perform a site:elliemoores.co.uk into google, it lists all the indexed pages, with the home page down in 6th position, and with a strange sub page extension /2014/01 after the url itself. When i enter this into the address bar,it redirects to the homepage, as does /2014/04, yet /2014/02 returns a 303.

This never use to happen. Google would simply show the original url with the meta description below.

I have just built a new site map using the xml plugin to hopefully help. But does anyone know what the problem may be? Why am i getting sub page urls for the home page within google and the page not ranking like it should be. All very strange as like i said, this never use to happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • I’m not saying this caused the problem you are facing but somehow related and you should look into

I noticed that in the blog section, none of the posts are linked.

Here https://elliemoores.co.uk/blog/page/2 there are 3 different posts all without links to their individual pages.

It is strange and not SEO friendly.

Thanks for the reply. The blog posts don’t have a link through to their actual page as i was trying to avoid having duplicate content. The blog page already displays the full post so there was no need to have it repeated on a separate page.

I don’t think thats the problem though. Its something to do with the home page itself and why its not being indexed correctly.
