Impossible to change my theme after a new install

  • Hi there – I’m trying to get my site up and running again but am running into a pretty basic error. When I install wordpress (through Softaculous on Arvixe) it seems to go fine – I can go to Appearance > Themes and change to another of the default themes but when I try to install a new one I’ve downloaded it does nothing at all. It’ll let me go through to the Add Themes page but I don’t see any new themes there and no matter what I press – Upload Theme, Popular, Latest etc – nothing happens. Clicking something simply changes the address bar from mysite.com/wp-admin/theme-install.php to mysite.com/wp-admin/theme-install.php#

    Apologies if this is a really easy solve but I’m kind of at my wits end and failing at the first hurdle – any help appreciated.

    Incidentally, it’s also impossible to add plugins as the mysite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php page redirects to a ‘Page not found’ on my site. All very weird and I can’t help feeling something basic is missing from the install, but I’ve followed instructions from Arvixe so I don’t know what to change.

    Any ideas?
