How to edit sidebar?

    I know that sidebars are widgets and see how to create them on the Widgets page.
    But editing them seems to require html coding. The reason I’m using WordPress is to make editing easier.

    Is there a way to create a sidebar the same way a page is created so I can use the same formatting functions?
