Sorry but there is a confusion with understanding the cookie settings. Is there a basic tut or doc for this.
Spending too much time just by try and error with no results. Found some announcements for cookie session settings.
What we need: User should see popup only once a session on enter the page, and only he on next browser visit he gets popup again.
    How to?

@anant01 – There is a checkbox for Session Cookies. Enabling that will do exactly what your after and requires no further set up.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you – but enabling does disappearing at all. Popup never shows up

The Popup shows the very first time, for me I see it never again, no matter if i open new browser window or even close and start the browser.

Still not working as expected – How to setup, that users get popup only at entry point and only at next visit?
Did not find any doc explaining what cookie-settings mean for each point: on open, on close or manual. And session cookie expires. What is the logic?
Anyway tried every combination without results…
Enabling cookies does make popup show only one time ever.
Disabling cookies does make popup show every time going to specific website.
And yes, trying to reset cookie or / and clean cache and cookie within browser.
    Any help?

@anant01 – If you reset the cookie then the problem is else where. Resetting the cookie key makes our software ignore the older cookie. So if after you reset it, the popup doesn’t open something else is going wrong.

Cookie Trigger: When the cookie will be set in the users browser. IE On Close = when they close the popup.

Cookie Time: “1 month” means that the popup will not open again for exactly 1 month from the time the cookie is triggered.

Sitewide means the cookie applies across all pages, vs each page separately. IE popup will appear on each page until that pages cookie is set.

Session Cookie: the cookie will be cleared when the user closes the browser. Cookie time is not used when this is enabled

That pretty much sums up the settings themselves.

Looking at your popup it is set to use sessions. Here is what I got during testing.

Deleting the cookie made the popup open again on refresh
Closing the tab and reopening did not
Closing the browser & reopening did work.
Opening a private browser also worked each time.

Seems to be working correctly from my testing.

If you want it to work differently we can make it happen.

@anant01 – Sorry just realized you marked this resolved already.

    Hi there,
I have a similar problem and can’t resolve it.

My popup is triggering after 10 seconds to open, which is working. I have set it to session cookie ‘on close’ and ‘sitewide’. As I understand the popup should trigger now after 10 seconds and show (which it does) and once it is closed the session cookie will be set on sitewide base. Therefore it should not open if I navigate to another site.
But it does open and even if it is closed again, by navigating to a different page it opens again after 10 seconds. Please see here: https://helloarchipelago.com

Please let me know how to resolve and/or which settings I should check.
    Many thanks in advance

What was your solution to this? I’m having the same problem, but only on mobile devices.

@kristindraves – Hmm, it may be that the browsers are ignoring session cookies. Many browsers now offer the feature to resume where you left off (state saving, open the last tabs you had when you closed etc). This function prevents session cookies from clearing when the browser is closed.

You may have to set your cookie to not session and just a 24 hour time limit or something that would reset by the time your typical user comes back.

Hi again, @danieliser, I’m having the same trouble. I’ve set the cookie to 2 weeks. I’ve reset the cookie. but every time i navigate back to the site, i get the popup. I have also selected to have the cookie apply site wide. So far it seems to be triggered at every session. To make sure it wasn’t just my browser blocking cookies, I tried it in Chrome and in Safari. I never use Safari, so I doubt I would have changed any cookie settings therein.

    Hi,

I seem to be experiencing the same issue. I have a popup that’s setup to show whenever I land on any page of the site. I have the sitewide cookie checkbox marked. So this would mean, that no matter what page I first saw the cookie, it shouldn’t appear in any other page I’ve been to, but it seems to show up on every page. I’ve tried it on multiple browsers as well (firefox, chrome, safari), but the popup seems to trigger on every page, even on the pages I’ve been to! Doesn’t seem like the cookies are working.

Any suggestions? I was also hoping to turn on ‘session cookies’, but I can’t seem to test that feature because the pop up shows up on every page at the moment.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, I was able to figure out the issue.

For any other people that might be experiencing this, you have to make sure the Cookie Name coincides with the Cookie on in the Triggers.

Once I figured that out, it seems to be working fine.

    Great plugin btw guys!

    @jaredatrogue – Do you have a link?

@imthatguydavid – Sorry about that confusion, we completely understand that its not 100% intuitive to have to create the cookie then go back to the trigger and link them. We are trying to come up with a way to fix that without limiting flexibility.

That ability to make a trigger look for multiple cookies, or have multiple triggers all looking for the same cookies etc gives you a lot of different setups you can create.

The true power here comes with the addition of new cookie events (such as the one we just added if you use Ninja Forms for successful submission). This means 2 events can set the same cookie with different lengths of time.

It also means that one popup can set cookies that other popups also look for disabling them all at once or (with our advanced targeting conditions extension) can look for the cookies set by another popup and trigger popup 2.

No arbitrary limits, just takes a little getting used to.

The same question came up to me 10 month ago, and as the plugin does have many possibilities, I can not use it in my normal work. So this is for coders mainly-
I think, when someone found out (not a doc told him) – that to make sure the Cookie Name coincides with the Cookie on in the Triggers –
    1. it does not make clear to me what this means exactly
    2. When i have to find out myself, this is a sign there is no clear tutorial, or coder click around and they know what to do, hating tuts
    3. the answeres i got in the past did not make it clear enough, so I found another tool, which does the job in minutes. Before i spent hours with try and errors with no effect.
So if you want a swiss knife for tricky solutions, this is the right tool. But most of user do not want headaches, but basic functions i think.
