• The Email Before Download plugin works fine for us in Chrome and Firefox for both Windows and Mac, but when downloading a file on MSIE it hangs after the loading thermometer reaches 100%. In other words, the loading progress bar is displayed and counts up to 100% but then nothing happens.

We’re using WordPress 4.2.5, Download Monitor 1.9.0, and Email Before Download 3.4. I hate to downgrade the Download Monitor plugin back to 3.3.6, but I may have to if the problem is being caused by that plugin and the prior version works in MSIE.

Can anyone think of any other possible solution?

  • You should narrow down your test to just Download Monitor. In other words, don’t use the Email Before Download form (actually disable the plugin entirely if you want). In your Downloads area (where you uploaded the file into Download Monitor), pull the page up for that file and in the top right area of the screen there will be a URL. That is the URL for the file as far as Download Monitor is concerned. Use that URL and test again with IE. Make sure you completely clear your cache first in IE and exit & restart it. Also, use a system out on the Internet (in other words, don’t test from your own network). See how that goes…

Are you using Apache or IIS or nginx? Are you doing any proxying, server caching, or redirecting? If you have a test URL, post it.

Definitely a problem with IE8. IE9+ works just fine, but IE8 throws an error and doesn’t even start downloading for me.

    WordPress 4.4.1
    Download Monitor 1.9.1
    Contact Form 7 4.3.1
    Email Before Download 3.4

I’ve tested the download on its own (Download Monitor shortcode in a test page, without using EBD or Contact Form 7) and it works just fine.

Make a public test page and put the URL in here so I can try it. Also, post your shortcode.

You might to make your test file download a .jpg file and not a .pdf or any other extension that might require a plugin to view.
