• I’m new to WordPress. I installed/edited some files to make the front page posts exerpted which ends with [..]. I’m not crazy about this exerpting (should be word “more” linked to rest of post or similar), so I’ve decided to remove. Could someone kindly tell me how to remove? I can’t remember what I did!

    Thanks much!

  • Well, if you use the_excerpt tag – you cannot remove it. It comes from the WP engine.

Alternative: you use the_content tag and apply the “more” button wherever you want to break the text.

Another alternative: search for the excerpt_reloaded plugin.

Thanks, Moshu, for your reply. I don’t have excerpt_reloaded. I’m not using any tags when I post — it is happening automatically. So I guess that leaves only the first as a possibility? Will have to look again on that — thought I saw that option, but set it to showing full post.

Sorry, my first line should have said: if your theme’s index template file is using the_excerpt… you can’t do anything except editing the file and replacing it… etc.

I can’t find anywhere that is exerpting my posts — no options that I’ve clicked. The post is in the post box — I’ve not put anything in the excerpt box. The only place in my options referring to excerpting is in the syndication feed which doesn’t apply.

I’m sure I added some scripting which is making all my posts excerpt onto the front page, ending with [..]. Any other ideas?

    Your post is your post.
A template file is a template file in your theme folder.
