I have this text with a red bullet :

You’re linking to another page with the focus keyword you want this page to rank for. Consider changing that if you truly want this page to rank.

The page is long, and I have in the top, links to different titles of the same page:
    Title Subject

Is this causing the the alert message?

    Thanks in advance

  • I also would like to see an answer to this but no one seems to know because after three weeks no one has answered.
I to get this message “You’re linking to another page with the focus keyword you want this page to rank for. Consider changing that if you truly want this page to rank.” on the Content Analysis on every single one of my few hundred posts on my sites after the last update.

Maybe it’s a trick on us free Yoast people.
I get the same thing– In my Yoast content analysis—I get red button before all my green lights : “You’re linking to another page with the focus keyword you want this page to rank for. Consider changing that if you truly want this page to rank.”
Except I am not linking to a page with the same focus keyword.

This means one of the links you have in this page has your focus word in the text:

    <<

    Example:

    Focus Word: ABCD

    Body text:
For view our ABCD click on it.
    >>

Now if you link ABCD to another page you will get this error.

I saw this information on a help forum. Hopefully it helps everyone understand.

*You’re linking to another page with the focus keyword you want this page to rank for. Consider changing that if you truly want this page to rank.”

    >> This simply means that you are using a focus keyword that you already used on another post/page. Yoast also checks these kinds of duplicates, thus the error. In on-page SEO, it is not bad to use or repeat a keyword in another page or post. So my advice is to ignore this error and instead focus on creating a good and unique content for your pages.

    Hi canadianangelxo and adventurousghost

Thanks for your reply. Sorry but that is not the topic of this thread.

” The page is long, and I have in the top, links to different titles of the same page”

Of course I don’t link other pages with my focus keyword, and of course I don’t use this keyword in other pages.

Folks: This topic is now 6 months old and references an old version of WordPress (and probably the plugin too).

@arlinaite: If you require still assistance then I strongly advise that you post a new topic.

Yoast works better when you don’t use the same focus keyword on a different page. The original message means that you have used the same focus keyword, as a focus keyword on another page. Try to use something different. For instance: if the keyword is Training DVDs, then try DVDs for Training.

    This is a current problem.

    I’m using WP 4.5.2 with Yoast 3.2.5.

Question: How is it possible to link to another page with the focus keyword (red dot) if you’ve never used that keyword before (green dot)?

I can’t give you a link to the problem without giving you access to the dashboard, however I’m quite happy to provide a screen shot of Yoast’s analysis is you’d like to see it.

Same problem here. My site is just one page with ling to sections further down the page.

WP and Yoast up to date.

I did originally have a separate contact page with the keyword of main page part of new key word/phrase that is now in trash. I thought it might be a cache problem but doesn’t look like it.
