Readers unable to comment

  • I just started my blog on WP.org. Used to be on WP.com. Now, when a reader wants to comment, they get the message “The server refused the connection”. I think I have all my Discussion settings correct. bootsboatsbikes.net

  • Have you spoken to your hosts about this? It sounds like a server issue.

    I’m trying to get help from host. They are very busy, as usual. The problem is definitely on their end. Something to do with file permissions.

    While you’re waiting for them to get back to you, you might want to have a look at Changing_File_Permissions

    My host has fixed the problem permission level. They are now encouraging me to subscribe to a paid security add-on. They said a hacker/bot could have gone into my files and made changes. Do you have any recommendations? Do I need to subscribe to a paid add-on or is one of the WP security plugins good enough? I have installed a plugin called “WP Security” which seems quite thorough.
    Thanks for any advice you can offer.
