• Hi,

I’m just about at my wits end. Ever since I have upgraded to the latest version of WP I cannot upload and activate new plugins anymore. This problem happens on both of my blogs and yes, the plugins folders are both CHMOD to 755.

I unzip and upload them to my server (I’ve tried “All in One SEO Pack” “Contact form” from https://green-beast.com/blog/?p=238#comment-22729 which is compatible apparently, Brian’s threaded comments, Edit comments, and more I can’t remember.

So far so good, after FTP ying them they show in my plugins folder on the server, but then when I login into my WP admin, they are non existent in the plugins area. I can’t see them, so I can’t activate them. I tried to clear my cache, that didn’t work either.

And the problem exists for two of my blogs, the first was installed and upgraded with fantastico
    https://www.thewritersmanifesto.com/blog

the second one was installed doing the full way
    https://yeppoonchronicle.com

they both run at the latest version and I have no ideas what is going on.

    Please help
    Monika

    anyone?

Just a silly question, but you’re sure that they are not in a folder /pluginname/pluginname/plugin.php? If it’s not /pluginname/plugin.php WP often doesn’t ‘see’ them.

    Hi Gangleri,

    No, they are in public_html/wp-content/plugins

as they should be, that is why I’m so puzzled. I’ve been using and uploading Plugins to WP for 10 months now and never had this problem at all.

    Beats me really.

Oh, that’s not what I mean. I meant that when there is an extra folder (usually created by unzipping), WP doesn’t always see the plugin, so you get:
public_html/wp-content/plugins/pluginfolder/pluginfolder/plugin.php which doesn’t always work, because it should be:
    public_html/wp-content/plugins/pluginfolder/plugin.php.

I’m sure you would have noticed if this was the case, but can never hurt to check.

Right, got you, yes, this could be the case. I recently switched to a new computer using Windows Vista and noticed they unzip differently. How do I fix this?

Sorry, just realized that was a rather dumb question. Just double click and then upload the inside folder, dah…

I’ll let you know how I go. ??

One option is to log into your server via FTP (filezilla, smartftp, whatever FTP program) and move those plugin folders up a notch. Using Gangleri’s example, move them from public_html/wp-content/plugins/pluginfolder/pluginfolder/plugin.php to like public_html/wp-content/plugins/pluginfolder/plugin.php (without the extra pluginfolder name).

Otherwise, how exactly do you mean by “they unzip differently”?

And once you’re able to resolve that, consider looking at the nifty OneClick plugin. That’ll let you upload any plugin and/or theme into your blog without having to go through FTP. ??

Edit: just saw you resolved your issue. Good to read. ??

    Ganngleri,

You are a saviour – thank you it worked and silly me for not seeing the obvious. ??

Problem solved, it is Visa making those extra folders.

    Big problems easy sollutions ??
