Can you tell us how you define “top or popular authors”?

Is “top” defined as the author who wrote the most posts?

Is “popular” the number of views for a given post? If so, do you have a plugin that tracks that (e.g. Gamerz’ WP PostViews)?

Or is “popular” the number of votes a post has received? If so, do you have a plugin that tracks that voting (e.g. Gamerz’ WP-PostRatings)?

You could also try List Authors Plus plugin (yes it’s mine). It lists by the number of posts not ‘popular’ as in most views or clicks. You can also filter authors by ID, role or author name.
