Which WP file shows the installed version number

    I have several servers and numerous installations of WordPress.

    I would like to be able to determine which installations are up to date and which need to be upgraded.

    I am guessing this information is somewhere in on of the WP- files, but I can’t find it.

    If anyone knows, or has a foolproof way to find old WP installs, please let me know?

    I have root access of course. Linux servers only.
