• I have been struggling with this for days now please help!!

My permalinks redirect to my home page and i dont know why. If i copy and paste a post permalink into the address bar, my home page appears… I have made most of my website seperately so wordpress is only the blog page, and am using redirects to navigate between the two but surely the permalinks for the posts should still work within wordpress?

I also cant change from the default permalink, if i do it says 404 error page not found.

I am so stuck! please help…

  • Go to root folder in your ftp then, rename .htaccess or delete

I have looked into this and i dont have access to my .htaccess file so have contacted my host. I found a great tutorial on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R603Ckc81c if anyone else has the same problem.

Ok, i am still having real problems if anyone can help…
My host has changed the .htaccess file and my links work, using the correct url of https://www.gardenmama.co.uk/blog/?p=93 however…

in wordpress i cannot get the permalinks to work as anything other than https://www.gardenmama.co.uk/?p=93 missing the /blog hence the links still dont work.

Why isnt wordpress pointing to the correct subdirectory? and how do i set it?

    Thanks in advance

Update: I have resolved this and it was embarrassingly simple. As my wordpress is installed in a /blog subdirectory in the general settings i needed to have both site url AND wordpress url set to https://www.gardenmama.co.uk/blog and i didnt. Once i changed this it worked perfectly.

I have to say i have been very disappointed in these forums and the lack of response from people on this. It seems a very common issue and i was surprised that no-one helped but never mind.

For anyone else with this issue, there is usually a very simple explanation so dont give up! I was so close to giving up myself but so glad i didnt!
